my new iq, and a power outage this morning.

What's your IQ?

etc etc.....
wow, i think i doubled my iq since the last time i took the test.

details here

now on to more serious matters.
i got to work early this morning.
as in 15 minutes before class started, and i can assure you this will be an isolated incident; i;m never early.

well anyway, while marking books (because i'm too lazy to mark books at home nowadays) the power suddenly went out.
no lights, no fan etc....

tnb screwed up again.
no electricity for over an hour to the whole of ss2.......
the last time we had a national power outage, they sacked the ceo, who will they sack now for a local power outage?

and puay chai definitely has a very weird chain of command.
ask the security guard why there is no power
"go ask the co-curriculum teacher,"

ask the aforementioned teacher
"go ask the electrician, but wait arh, he went buy chee cheong fun,"

i don't know whether to laugh or cry or slap them.....

and the kids are still just as annoying as they were the last time i posted
still crybabies the lot of them.....
thank god no nosebleeds today.

and i had to spend half an hour watching a parent trying (and failing quite spectacularly) to discipline her kid, who has summarily refused to do her homework for the past 2 months.
this is actually a very embarrassing but necessary part of a teacher's job.
watching the kid getting screwed but trying your best not to smile as you recall how you were the one who used to get screwed, and still do i might add.

alright, thats all for now

ok?
kthxbye

i call your attention to this definition because of a very momentous occasion in my life

i had a haircut

it was not done out of choice.. i can tell you that
if my hair grew any longer i would have stopped looking like a lala chai
and start looking like a lala mui...

as you can see
decidely lala.....

anyway
this is a picture i took 2 weeks ago in bentong, pahang.

this building was supposed to be a hawker center, built at the cost of a few million ringgit and tearing down the children's playground on the land which it was built on.

no one wanted to move in
so they "renovated" it to become a car park.
however, long story short, roof too low, ramps too steep, not built in accordance with safety standards, leaky roof etc...
it is still unoccupied now.

the newspaper says it's going to be torn down soon, hopefully to rebuild the children's playground.
but i doubt it.

i have so much more to write about
but i just can't keep my eyes open...
nights people

fun stuff

have you actually wondered at what makes things funny?

when a guy slips and falls on a banana peel?

isn't that the basis of all jokes?
laughing at someone else's expense, either their misfortune, or their sheer sutpidity.

humans are cruel that way

but that doesn't stop it from being funny!

here are some sites you may find interesting

and here is a photo of me infiltrating pm7's class photo.

you can tell that they're not amused by the wide unblinking smiles they put up for the camera, at least you would if you could actually make out their faces...... lousy camera

nimiety

i dare you
google it.

how many of you actually understand the meaning of the word nimiety?
i bet you probably are in the minority

it comes from the latin word nimius, meaning excessive

and i have something to say concerning the state of our society in relation to this word
(obviously this sentence is superfluous but i just put it in anyway to stay in theme of being excessive and just to rile you up)

still reading?
good

i attended the resorts world berhad and genting group berhad's annual general meeting today.

to clarify things
i am not a shareholder (poor man i am)

but i will still tell you how i got in

you see (still reading, patient bloke aren't you)
we live in a culture of excesses

and man (and women in particular) is a greedy animal

knowing that at agm's there will be a nimiety of food, hordes of old ladies
(the majority of which own less than 100 shares which is deemed so small an amount that on the annual report it is written as "insignificant")
descended on crowne plaza (where the agm was held) to exercise their "rights" as shareholders to collect the goodie bags full of food.

naturally they are too busy with other "pressing" business to actually stay and attend the agm.
thus, with the liberal application of my manly charm, i was able to inveigle a tag from her declaring me as
a shareholder of both resorts world and genting bhd, allowing me to "legally" attend the meeting.

now is a very good time to question my morals, but let's just gloss it over k? thx

before we continue i must state that i am here to present a satirized account of the agm.
on the whole it went very smoothly, except for a few minor hitches.
and i am only going to touch on the hitches

you're still here? amazing!

anyway, the agm was a literal circus
i've never seen so many people trying to make a fool of themselves and succeeding so marvelously.
malaysia boleh indeed

the first grouse raised was why the food was doled out in goodie bags instead of the usual buffet style lunch.
and i agree with the proposer, a mr. chew
with goodie bags handed out in an orderly fashion, there was absolutely no opportunity for me to see old men and women jostle and kick like children fresh out of kindergarten in the mad rush to grab food.
sigh... you can't always get what you want

next, another mr. chew (a different one) complained why genting did not pay for the parking in crowne plaza, which was 8 ringgit.
well, it's actually simple economics

genting group has a shareholder base in excess of 35000 people
over 16000 of those hold less than 100 shares

genting's dividend payout for 2007 was something to the tune of 4.03 sen per 10 sen share
if you owned 100 shares, you'd get 40 sen in dividend
if you came to the agm, genting would have to front 8 ringgit, which is a heck of a lot bigger than the dividend they paid you.

duh

this was only 5 minutes into the meeting, which incidentally started 15 minutes late because of the mad rush outside to register for the meeting and collect goodie bags
i might add that the hall was most definitely not filled to capacity
and the amount of goodie bags given out was assuredly greater than the number of people sitting in the hall

i'm surprised the chairman, tan sri lim kok thay did not just break down and cry like a little girl.
i know i would.

towards the end of the meeting
(the middle part is where all the serious people get up and make themselves heard, not much to satirize there)
a mr. leong got up to complain about the state of the police in genting unfairly apprehended him for "weird behaviour" (his own words, i swear)
he then complained about the singaporean staff at genting trying to sabotage genting's casino operations because they are singaporean and there exists some deep seated animosity between malaysia and singapore.
he then proceeded to submit a police report to each of the board members and demanded a written explanation while the chairman kept saying "this is not the place or time for this."

go figure.

wow, that was fun!

now which agm should i sneak into next?

p.s.
samuel, thought you were a shareholder, why were you not there?
chia, thought you were related to lim goh tong (daughter/granddaughter/granddaughter in-law/goddaughter, you keep changing your story so can't remember which)

the day after redang trip. bonus: richie profitt memorial

i've been away for nigh a week now

and i can't say it's great to be back

see, the thing about holidays is that it drives home the point that you can only run away from your responsibilities for so much time before they all start catching up to you

enough

i had a great time and even the numerous minor faults could detract from what was overall a great trip.

now that i'm back
tis time to write about some stuff that's been nagging me for a long time

cat

i'm still single
though it's not for a lack of trying

more work needs to be done

it could be due to the fact that i am nowhere near cool
i am a geek
and proud to be one

i obsess with stuff that has no bearing on reality, and i spend so much time on my hobbies that i even think i can get chummy with people who i know nothing about except what they write in their forum posts

for instance
richie profitt (a.k.a. polarbeargod on mtgsalvation forums) died sometime this month (june 9th i think, but i can't be sure) and i was actually sad to hear it
i live on the other side of the globe from him,
have never met him in person

yet i was still participating in the spamming of the forums over the next 2 weeks in a torrent of (digital) grief

i know i miss him
and not getting to read his posts or see his amazing artwork anymore is something that i still can't get to grips with

it's just kinda sad

but somehow it just goes to show how many geeks there are like me out there
who idolise geeks who are geekier than us

by the way, he died of diabetes

on june 29
starcitygames is hosting a richie profitt memorial tournament
details here

i should just quote some of the lines from the article

"Matter of fact, this is such a huge outpouring of love and support, what about the idea of holding a yearly tournament? Richie Proffitt ultimately lost his life due to a fight with Diabetes. Diabetes kills millions each year and while this year the funds we raise are going directly to Richie’s family, what if next year we raised money for the American Diabetes Association?

This would give Magic something akin to Child’s Play, the awesome yearly Christmas project run by the guys at Penny Arcade. While we certainly can’t match their scale, I believe we can definitely show the world that Magic players are not all math nerds who only worry about the next foil Mythic rare. Magic is a game of friends, good times, and fantastic experiences, and I try to show that every week. To allow us to do some good with our fun, that sounds like a win-win situation to me."

now you must excuse me

i have been sleep deprived for the past week

need a recharge of souls

cat

the end is here

first things first
exams are over
and i just played 3.5 hours of dota today
feeded as usual.... but was good entertainment nonetheless

oh,
it took me 2 hours to get home from college
2 freaking hours
thank god samuel was there to alleviate my boredom

end of exams....
so now i can start to devote more time to my own interests (whatever they may be)
but i just realised something

wow
i've completed my a levels

when i was in secondary school a levels used to be this huge thing that you move on to after spm
now it just seems like a pile of hogwash to me

but its not the program
its the people that i've met, that made this a worthwhile way to spend 1.5 years of my life
thanks to all my peeps and teachers especially ms lilian who continually treats us to cake..
i hope you miss me bugging you for math questions as much as i miss bugging you...

take care all,
and you can expect to hear a lot more from me soon

nearing the end of exams

i have not posted for quite some time.
for those of you (a minority i surmise) who want to know what i've been doing
here's a list

1. finished reading the chronicles of narnia
2. finished reading the entire series of harry potter
3. played close to 50 matches of dota (i counted)
4. played the piano at least 2 hours a day
5. got myself up to date with detective conan (read chapters 300-651)
